Following our last post, we want to address a few vital checks and points you must be aware of over Winter. We have also created an emergency kit for you to ensure that if the worst did happen, you wouldn’t be stuck in heavy snow freezing without knowing what to do. Emergency Kit
There are five main things that you must make sure you have in your car throughout Winter. Needed for short and long journeys, the following items will become necessary for you. You may find that you never needed any of these items, but should you do, you’ll be very pleased that you packed them and had them with you. These can, of course, be adapted for your own needs, but as a starting kit, you should always make sure you have the following items in your car:
- A blanket or rug
- Ice scraper and de-icer
- Torch and batteries
- Snacks – cereal bars, chocolate etc. (you may be in for a wait)
- Spare screenwash
When heading out on the roads over the winter, you must plan your route or know when you want to go. Wherever possible, we suggest that you only drive when you need to i.e. commuting to work or shopping in town but try to keep it as minimal as possible to avoid any icy, hazardous conditions.
What Do I Need to Check?
Over the Winter months, your condition becomes vital with every trip you take. To make sure that your vehicle is safe to drive over Winter, try to check the following areas of your car as regularly as you can:
- Battery
- Light bulbs
- Windscreen
- Wiper blades
- Screen wash levels
- Oil levels
- Anti-freeze
