The Benefits of Driving a Diesel Car

In a world that revolves around saving money, it’s important to cut costs in any way possible, and one of the biggest ways you can do this is to make the switch from petrol to diesel. For those of you who have been considering this and are unsure about the positives of diesel motors, Fleetcare are using this blog space to compose a quick list of positives to see if we can sway your thoughts.

Once upon a time, the only motors that would have used diesel would have been larger commercial vehicles like trucks. But in modern times, more and more vehicles are run using this method of fuelling. Current engines that run on diesel are quieter, cleaner and run much smoother than that of the original versions.

Here are Fleetcare’s 6 benefits of switching to a diesel motor:

Lower Emissions: Fewer emissions are produced due to the type of compression and air fuel ratios. On top of this, diesel is burned in excess air which helps lower the emissions produced by your vehicle. the combination of a properly tuned ignition and new filters, diesel cars are now some of the lowest emission vehicles that still use oil based fuel.

Fuel Economy: Diesel Cars have a much better fuel economy that that of gas run vehicles. Diesel Engines generate more power using less fuel because of a higher compression rare, which in turn produces a greater horsepower per litre of fuel. With the addition of a high pressure injection system, it’s possible to get an even better fuel economy which will safe you a lot of money in the long run. If you want an even great fuel economy at this point, you could also use a turbocharger.

Lower Maintenance Costs: Diesel engines work somewhat differently to that of gas engines, and because of this they have a longer lifespan and are easier to maintain. One of the biggest differences, if not the biggest difference is the fact that a diesel engine does not use an electronic fuel ignition system. Because diesel engines do not have this type of system, money is saved in the repair process, and as well as this, the likelihood of electrical failure is significantly lowered. Overall, you have a more reliable engine and the time between maintenance services is much longer.

Lower Taxes: The road tax laws have changed in recent times and a diesel vehicle road tax is now lower than that of a gasoline run vehicle. The tax is calculated based on CO2 emissions and because diesel vehicles have lower carbon emissions, they have lower taxes.

Greater Torque: The way diesel engines have been designed means they are able to produce much high torque than that of other engines. Torque is a term used to describe a vehicles pulling power and speed of acceleration. In modern times, drivers are often focused towards horsepower, but torque is equally important, if not more important. Diesel torque can easily overcome other vehicles for power and will produce phenomenal power at low to middle RPM.

Lower Fire Hazard: Because diesel ignites when it hits hot compressed air, the chance of fire is extremely low. In other gas run vehicles the gasoline would potentially be ignited by a spark, but in diesel vehicles, this isn’t the case.

If you have been caught in two minds about whether or not to switch to a diesel motor, or if you have one already and weren’t sure on the benefits, then hopefully this has helped you out a bit!
