When it comes to your tyres, we’ve put together a list of top tips to help maintain your tyres and get the best out of them for your vehicle.
Usually tyres last around two years before age starts to have a negative impact on their performance. We understand that it’s not all true and there are a number of specialists out there who believe that if they’re looked after properly, your tyres could last up to 10 years. Here are a couple of ways you can prolong the life of your tyres…
Storage
By storing your tyres in a climate controlled environment this provides the most unlimited shelf life, not storing them properly when they’re not in use will have a negative effect on the types and how they perform on the road once they start being used. It’s not much effort to store your tyres properly, you should make sure that you do it as it could really save you money in the long run.
Maintenance
Appropriate and regular maintenance of your tyres will help to prolong them, most drivers don’t usually check on their tyres, so by remembering to do this could help maintain them. Sometimes problems aren’t recognised until it’s obviously noticeable, so it’s important to check on your tyres frequently. Tyre related problems can be prevented, so make sure you give your tyres the once over, this shouldn’t take up more than 10 minutes of your day, so why risk them failing.
Damage
Changes in temperature and exposure to UV rays are known for shortening the lifespan of your tyres, so again, it’s important to regularly check them for cracks in the sidewall of the tyre, as this can be exposure to the sun or under inflation. Damage to your tyres will cause problems and should they be left untreated, this can reduce their lifespan. How much this is a problem will depend on changes in temperature, where you live and where you drive. If you live in a place where there’s significant drops in temperature, then it’s important to check your tyres for damage regularly.
