Winter Checklist

Following on from our last post, we would like to address a few vital checks and points of what you will need to be aware of over Winter. We have also created an emergency kit for yourself to make sure that if the worse did happen, you won’t be stuck in heavy snow freezing without a clue of what to do. Fleetcare hope that you will never need to follow this advice and that you are always blessed with safe, weather friendly journeys, but should you need us, it’s good to know we’re here. After all, it’s better to prepare for the worst!

Emergency Kit

There are five main things that you must make sure you have in your car throughout Winter. Needed for both short and long journeys, the following items will become a necessity for you. You may find that you never needed any of these items, but should you do, you’ll be very pleased that you packed them and had them with you. These can of course be adapted for your own needs but as a starting kit, you should always make sure you have the following items in your car:

  1. A blanket or rug
  2. Ice scraper and de-icer
  3. Torch and batteries
  4. Snacks – cereal bars, chocolate etc. (you may be in for a wait)
  5. Spare screenwash

When heading out on the roads over the Winter it is important that you plan your route or know when you’re wanting to go. Wherever possible we would suggest that you only drive when you really need to ie. commuting to work, shopping to town but try to keep it as minimal as possible to avoid any icy, hazardous conditions.

What Do I Need to Check?

Over the Winter months the condition of your becomes vital with every trip you take. In order to make sure that your vehicle is safe to drive over Winter, try to check the following areas of your car as regularly as you can:

  • Battery
  • Light bulbs
  • Windscreen
  • Wiper blades
  • Screen wash levels
  • Oil levels
  • Anti-freeze

Last of all, we would like to wish you all a safe and pleasant Christmas and hope that your journeys are safe throughout the whole year. We hope that you take our advice on board when it comes to your car safety and making those important checks on your car over Winter.
